WesBank Modified Saloon Car Racing in 1995
A new era has dawned on South African motorsport as the country's premier motor racing formula - the WesBank Modified Saloon Car Championship - goes into its 12th year.

"There are new exciting classes to watch, new rules, a new committee headed up by a new Chairman Brian Cook who guided WesBank racing in the early years, and even a new name to the formula", says Peter Moloney, Marketing Manager of WesBank. "Our racing will continue to give local motorsport fans the type of spectacular and exciting motor racing that spectators have experienced over the years and have come to expect from us".

The new WesBank racing formula will be controlled by the newly-formed Southern African Modified Saloon Car Association (SAMCAR).

"Our purpose", says Chairman Brian Cook, "is to provide affordable high-powered motor racing, using low tech engined vehicles that are easy and cheap to maintain and race. With big capacity V8 American engines, we are producing more than double the power of any vehicle racing in this country. This is a sure fire  recipe to bring great entertainment to all our circuits," he said.

Future plans include building a new WesBank modified car to enable an overseas driver to compete in it with our local drivers at the majority of race meetings.
