16 year-old driving sensation, Brandon Auby (Masana Petroleum Jaguar) took his first win in WesBank V8 Racing at Zwartkops on Saturday when he led a dramatic second race of the day from start to finish.   This despite a safety car being deployed when Championship leader, Hennie Groenewald (Team Timken Holden) went off the road when he and Willie Hepburn (Project Orange Corvette) collided in the fast sweep.   Des Gutzeit (Dezzi/Trysome Jaguar) and Clair Vale (Goodyear-Ram Mustang) also took to the gravel traps.

Brandon Auby is now the youngest driver ever to have won a WesBank V8 race driving a car with 450 kW and a top speed of 300 kmh.

Auby’s elder brother Mark (Jonnesway Tools Jaguar) made it a good day for the Auby family by finishing 2nd in the first race behind winner Groenewald by .6 seconds, followed by another 2nd place behind his  younger brother, who had his gearbox seize within sight of the finish by .8 seconds after a brilliant drive, when he passed 14 other drivers from the back of the field.   Father Deon (Meta Forge Holden) finished 8th twice.

Robert Briggs (Team Timken Jaguar) moved up the championship points table with two strong 3rds, but could be penalised for supposedly passing under the yellow flag.

Newcomer Bjorn Roos (SP Racing  Jaguar), a former South African Karting Champion, in his 2nd outing in a WesBank V8 racing car, despite a spin in Race 1, finished 11th and followed this up with a 5th spot in Race 2.
