3-times WesBank V8 Champion, Hennie Groenewald (Team Timken Holden) continued on his winning ways with a pair of back-to-back victories at the Aldo Scribante Circuit in Port Elizabeth on Saturday (4th October).

Strong winds, bright sunshine and a big crowd saw the most successful V8 Champion in our motor sport racing history, Groenewald, make it look easy winning in the first 12-lapper by 1 second from team-mate Robert Briggs (Team Timken Jaguar).   Briggs just held off the Auby racing brothers, Mark (Jonnesway Tools Jaguar) and his 16 year-old brother, Brandon (Masana Petroleum Jaguar) with veteran Willie Hepburn (Project Orange Corvette) 5th.

Many drivers suffered punctures from stones blown onto the circuit by the strong wind.

The reverse grid start for the 2nd 12-lapper saw Groenewald start at the back.   It took him two thirds of the race to pass the entire field of 17 cars in a magnificent drive to lead the field home by 3 seconds.   Brandon Auby held off Richard Pinard (Team Timken Jaguar) to slot into 2nd position behind Groenewald.

Mark Auby was 3rd ahead of Jaco Correia (Omega Spares Corvette), recovering from a first race puncture and Des Gutzeit (Dezzi / Trysome Mustang) the first racing father in the field home in 6th.   Then came Darron Gudmanz (Crazy J’s Corvette) and lady racer, Clare Vale (Gatorback RAM Mustang), a brilliant 8th.   This position gave Clare her first trophy in WesBank V8 Racing with a 4th place overall for the day.

Once again a dirty track in Race 2 put five cars out with punctures.
