Marc
Auby (Jonnesway Tools Jaguar) took the opposition apart by winning
both 12-lap WesBank V8 Championship races in P.E. at the weekend to
go into an 8 point lead at the top of the points table. In 2nd
spot was his 16-ear-old brother and driving sensation, Brandon (Masana
Petroleum Jaguar), proving as he has done in the past that he can
handle these 450 kW, 300 kmh V8 racers.
In
Race 1 Marc took off from pole position to take the lead, which he
held to the end despite pressure from three-times WesBank Racing
Champion, Hennie Groenewald (Team Timken Jaguar) sitting on his
tail. In 3rd place, Brandon Auby was holding station
with his father Deon (Meta Force Lumina) 4th, until his
fuel pump got blocked and he retired. This let in East London’s
Wade van Zummeren (Border Towing Mustang) ahead of a fast closing
Richard Pinard (Team Timken Jaguar) and Franco di Matteo (Optima
Batteries Jaguar) which gave the first six positions to Ford engined
cars.
A
reverse starting grid for Race 2 saw Marc Auby once again come
through the field to win by 6 seconds. Brother Brandon was 2nd
with East London’s Darron Gudmanz (Crazy J’s Corvette) third in a
car prepared by V8 legend, Willy Hepburn.
Both
Darron Gudmanz and Jaco Correia from Welkom in his Omega Parts
Corvette led the race for a few laps. Hennie Groenewald who had
driven from 13th position at the start to 3rd
in one lap, collided with Jaco Correia (Liqui Moli Corvette) and
picked up a puncture. Deon Auby came home a creditable 4th.
