3 times WesBank V8 Champion, Hennie Groenewald (Team Timken Holden), with two hard-fought wins on the Historic high speed East London Grand Prix Circuit on Saturday, started a serious fight back to win his 4th title in a row.   He has been languishing down in 9th position following a drama ridden start to his V8 season.   He now lies 3rd on the points table.

Championship leader, Marc Auby (ELT International Jaguar) finished a close 3rd in the first race after Mackie Adlem (Adlem Racing Mustang) passed him on the last corner to nab 2nd position.

17 year old Brandon Auby (ELT International Jaguar) led the second race for four laps until passed by Groenewald coming from 13th on the reversed starting grid, two laps from the flag.   Adlem was a close 3rd .

In Race 1 Groenewald had to race his Holden after his Jaguar suffered technical problems in practice.   From pole position he was worried throughout by Marc Auby who gave up 2nd spot to Adlem almost at the end.   Behind these three, father Deon Auby (ELT Lumina) was engaged in a battle for 4th position with the man who took it -  Welkom’s Jaco Correia (LiquiMoly Corvette) who is having his best season in V8 racing.   Richard Pinard (Team Timken Jaguar) was slugging it out with Brandon Auby and Danie Correia (LiquiMoly Corvette) in a three-way battle which eventually went to Auby.

Race 2 used the now familiar reversed starting grid which saw Claire Vale (Gatorback/RAM Mustang) from pole position leading a pack of super fast cars into the awesome Potters Pass corner with total confidence.   Local veteran, Martin van Zummeren (Border Towing Mustang) standing in for his son Wade who was injured, led for the next four laps ahead of another East Londoner, Darron Gudmanz (Crazy J’s Corvette), Franco di Matteo (Varta Batteries Jaguar) and Pinard.   Brandon Auby from 10th on the grid got to the front in lap 5 of this 10-lap event with Groenewald from 13th closing in fast.   On lap 9 Marc Auby had a coming together with Pinard who also had van Zummeren T-boning him as well.    This put the two cars out of action at Cocabana Corner.   Groenewald went to the front, where he stayed despite pressure from Brandon Auby, until the end.
