WesBank V8 Supercars set to fly low over East London's Grand Prix Circuit, with 2011 Lumina making its debut

The WesBank V8 Supercar field will be doing some low flying over East London's GP Circuit in the penultimate round of the WesBank Super Series on Saturday, 30 October. An added attraction to the event will be the introduction of the 2011 New Style Chev Lumina, to be piloted by Jimmy Auby (ELT International/SKF Chev Lumina) , a driver who is no stranger to the ranks.

His young brother Brandon Auby (ELT International/SKF Jaguar) currently leads the Super GT Class Championship with 88 points. One might think he has one hand on the Championship trophy, but Jaco Correia (LiquiMoly Corvette) lies second in the title chase with 66 points, and may still have something to say about that. In third place is Deon Auby (ELT Interrnational/SKF Jaguar), and he is ideally placed to help son Brandon in his quest for the title. No such thoughts occupy Danie Correia's mind though. Danie in the sister LiquiMoly Corvette is fourth in the championship, just behind Deon Auby, after taking three outright wins this year, with older brother Jaco hot on his heels. Teamwork in the camp, it seems, is not a priority. However Danie has driven splendidly this year and fully deserves his three wins. Franco di Matteo (Varta Batteries Jaguar) is next up on the leader board, and he too could still snatch third place in the final standings from Deon and Danie. Just 4 points separate the trio with the two rounds remaining. Ben Morgenrood,(Ben Morgenrood Auto Jaguar) is fifth and more than capable of spoiling the party for those ahead of him. You could say the same of Wade van Zuumeren (Border Towing Mustang) who will be all fired up in front of his home crowd. Terry Wilford (Fuchs Titan Mustang) lies seventh in the Championship behind Van Zummeren and has been quick in an unreliable car all year. If it all comes together, watch him in Heat 2 with the reverse grid format in use. After the Killarney round Terry expressed his delight at finishing races, and it's a habit he will gladly want to grow. Clare Vale (Gatorback/RAM Mustang) and Vicki Kemp (Vixen Racing Jaguar) will be the two roses among the thorns, but no less competitive for that. Both ladies could throw a spanner in the works.

In the GT Class Championship, the battle has been as fierce as any in the WesBank Super Series. Des Gutzeit (Dezzi/Trysome Mustang) Darron Gudmanz ( Indigo Boats Corvette) and Larry Wilford (Mustang) have been at each other's throats all year, and have shared the wins between them. Gutzeit leads the championship by a narrow margin. For Gudmanz this too is a home race, but that will be of little importance to the rest. Roelf du Plessis (RJ Panelbeaters Jaguar) also fancies his chance at this ultimate test of man and machine, and on the back of strong results during the season may just upset the applecart. Steve Herbst (Prei Instrumentation Corvette) is also making the trip to the coast, after recovering from an injury earlier in the season, while the elusive Wimpie van Zyl (Cool Bond Corvette) is entered for his long awaited debut this year and completes the field.
