AUBY'S DOMINATE AT KILLARNEY
15 March 2010

Teenager Brandon Auby (ELT International) stamped his authority on proceedings at Killarney over the weekend when he won Heat 1 of the Wesbank V8 Supercar race from pole position with his father, Deon (ELT International), finishing close behind. The pair led Heat 1 from lights to flag, with veteran Franco di Matteo (Varta Batteries) starting and finishing Heat 1 in third place ahead of Wade von Zummeren (Border Towing) and Ben Morgenrood (Ben Morgenrood Auto).  Larry Wilford (Fuchs Lubricants) qualified in sixth position in an Opel Astra which was hastily prepared on Friday after a wrangle with the tyre wall in turn 5 during practice destroyed his GT Class Mustang. In the GT Class Roelf du Plessis (RJ Panel Beaters) won just ahead of Des Gutzeit (Dezzzi Heavy Equipment) and Ray Wilford (Fuchs Lubricants) in a close fought battle with the veteran Des putting pressure on all the young guns!

The second heat saw Danie Correia (Liqui Moly) leading initially from the pole position  for the grid inversion race, with Von Zummeren hot on his heels. On Lap three Morgenrood and Di Matteo had an exciting coming together at the Sabat corner with both cars falling off and retiring instantly.  Von Zummeren then took the lead, but the Auby steam roller was on the move!  Once again, with Brandon leading Deon, the pair made their way to the front of the pack where they finished in the same order as in Heat 1. Veteran Larry Wilford was sensational in the Astra, finishing in third place ahead of Von Zummeren in fourth place and Danie Correia in fifth place.  Brother Jaco (Liqui Moly) crossed the line in sixth place with his front left tyre in shreds and spitting bits of bodywork all over the final straight!  A spirited race  in the GT class saw Des Gutzeit take the honours, ahead of Ray Wilford and Roelf du Plessis, again the race skills of the GT class drivers coming to the fore with an exciting dice down the class and a hard braking incident in turn one between Darron Gudmanz (Indigo Boats) and Romano Sartori (AMC), which caused them both to retire to the pits.
