WESBANK V8’S MOVE INTO A FAST AND FURIOUS FUTURE
28 February 2011

It's all change, outwardly at least, for the WesBank V8's in 2011 with the introduction of new body styles to the Super GT and GT Classes, to better reflect the market for fans of this still hugely popular series.  With a five year limit from date of inception on body styling, the new designs have come about after lengthy deliberation and discussion, but the end product will continue to enthral fans around the country, as part of this year's WesBank Super Series.

2011 will introduce the new Samcar Ford Falcon, Chev Lumina as well as major improvements to the Chev Corvette C6 and Jaguar XKR which will all be visible for the first time at Kyalami.  The Mustang styling should be seen by mid season.

The formula will continue to run two classes at all events, namely SUPER GT, who will be launching the new body styles at the first event, and the GT Class who will reveal the new style by the Phakisa race meeting on 04 June.

Deon Auby will campaign in 2011 in the ELT International Chev Lumina, while sons Jimmy and 2010 WesBank V8 Supercar Champion  Brandon Auby will do battle in two new look ELT International Ford Falcons.  Terry Wilford will pilot another strikingly liveried new look Ford Falcon under the Fuchs banner, while Franco di Matteo will enter a beautifully turned out Jaguar XKR flying the Deltec/Varta Batteries colours. The evergreen Ben Morgenrood will also be at the wheel of a Jaguar XKR with Ben Morgenrood Auto sponsorship. From Welkom, the “Cheetahs of the Free State” - Correia siblings, Jaco and Danie, will race the new updated Corvette bodies.  Mackie Adlem is expected to enter a Ford Falcon later in the season.

In the GT Class, a number of veterans will again take to the track, albeit in last year's models, after they were given a  dispensation until June this year to update their machines. 2011 champion Des Gutzeit in the Dezzi/Cummins Mustang will head the field, while Larry Wilford will be at the wheel of a Ford Falcon and Patrick Seddon will steer a Chev Lumina. Other series regulars like Darron Gudmanz, last year's runner up, will race a Corvette, and Roelf du Plessis his trusty Mustang.

Although the look of this year's cars will change, the rules and regulations have not, ensuring stability and continuity in the competitiveness of  WesBank V8 Super cars, in their quest to steal everyone's thunder in 2011.
