Johannesburg, 07 August 2006: WesBank announced its sponsorship of
the National Circuit Racing Championship, which is to be known as the
WesBank Super Series. Through this agreement, WesBank obtains full
television and naming rights of the championship for the remainder of
2006. The bank and Motorsport South Africa are in the process of
finalising the contract for 2007.
As of
26th July 2006, the six national championships categories:
WesBank V8 Supercars, South African Superbike Championship, South
African Production Car Championship, Formula Ford, Engen Volkswagen
Cup and Shelby Can Am Sports Car Championship will be known as WesBank
Super Series. This format will be modified in 2007, once the
partners have evaluated a number of alternatives.
“The deal concluded
with WesBank for the title sponsorship of the National Circuit Racing
Roadshow is a significant step for motorsport in South Africa.” said
Roger Pearce – Chairman of Motorsport South Africa.
“WesBank gets involved with ventures of this nature to establish
successful long term partnerships.
We have
carefully considered this opportunity and we believe that our
involvement will result in new developments that will not only take
motor racing to another level but will excite race fans,” said Greg
Moloney – WesBank Motorsport Manager.
Moloney
explained that WesBank are in the process of finalising a five year
deal with Motorsport South Africa (MSA), expected to start in 2007.
“WesBank are very excited to have taken on this sponsorship, we are
delighted with the opportunities that this partnership presents to
motor racing and the motor industry,” comments Brian Riley - General
Manager: Motor Division - WesBank.
WesBank
also announced that its partners, MSA, will in 2007 introduce changes
to the V8 Super cars formula, these with changes will include a
WesBank V8 “Super Taxi” aimed at giving the public the V8 Super car
experience.
WesBank
has been involved with national circuit racing championship since
inception in 1984, with the then WesBank Modified Saloon Car
Association. The bank has one of the longest standing sponsorships in
the world of motorsport, WesBank V8 Supercars, set to reach its 25th
anniversary by 2009.
“As the
longest serving sponsor of our sport in this country, it is fitting
that they have now taken up the title sponsorship of the Premier
Circuit Racing Roadshow. MSA has enjoyed an excellent working
relationship with WesBank for many years, and we will continue to work
together to grow circuit racing and develop our sport into one which
offers greater public interest and which will ensure wider
participation from the public, sponsors and competitors,” concludes
Pearce.
